THIS PIECE IS A SEVEN COLOR SUICIDE CUT, AND MY FIRST TRUE EXPERIENCE WITH COLOR OVERLAY. I WORKED ON THIS PRINT OVER THE COURSE OF MY TIME SPENT IN MAINE THIS YEAR, AND SPENT MANY MANY HOURS CUTTING WHILE THE SUN FELL BEHIND THE PINES ACROSS THE BAY, AND WAKING UP PRINTING WHILE THE SUN WAS JUST RISING AND LIGHTING THE DAY.

THE QUIET ESCAPE

THE WALTZ IN DAMRISCOTTA IS STILL THE CLASSIC DRUG STORE IT WAS IN THE '50S. THE SODA BAR IS STILL HERE WITH THE RED SWIVEL STOOLS AND A FORMICA BAR, ...AND MOST LIKELY THE MEN WHO WERE HERE 60 YEARS AGO

SAN CARLOS

MY COLLECTION OF TREASURES I FOUND IN THE SAND DUNES BY THE OPHIOLITE
AT THE MOUTH OF SAN CARLOS. THE SAND HAS AN OLIVE COLOR TO IT,
AND THERE'S A SPOT NEAR THE MOUTH WHERE THE SAND HAS MAGNETIC QUALITIES

PONGA RIDE TO AN MPA, WE RAN ACROSS A POD OF COMMON DOLPHIN ON THE
WAY AND HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO SWIM WITH THEM FOR A BIT.

THIS JULY I HAD THE AMAZING EXPERIENCE OF HELPING TWO PROFESSORS FROM MY SCHOOL
WITH THEIR LONG TERM DATA SET IN SAN CARLOS. WE DID CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS
OF SEDIMENT AND WATER SAMPLES, AS WELL AS BENTHIC ANALYSIS IN SEDIMENT AT 6 SITES (PRISTINE AND IMPACTED), TO MEASURE THE IMPACT OF THE LOCAL CANNERY'S RELEASE OF FISH BYPRODUCT INTO MAG BAY. WHEN THE CANNERY IS IN FULL SWING IT CAN CAN
25 TONS OF TUNA AND 100 TONS OF ANCHOVIES....PER DAY.

THE WATER IN FRONT OF THE CANNERY, HERE, HAS MIXED WITH THE FISH BLOOD, GUTS, BONES, ETC... (THE PARTS OF THE FISH WHICH CAN NOT BE CANNED)
AND WHITE STRINGY BACTERIA HAS BEGUN TO FORM.

CAULASTREA BLURB

MY INCORPORATION OF MY VERSION OF CAULASTREA
HAS BEEN APPARENT IN ALMOST EVERY ONE OF MY SEA CUTS.
THIS PIECE IS A REPRESENTATION OF MY FOCUS ON THESE PRECIOUS
LITTLE CORALLITES, AND HOW I LIKE TO IMAGINE TINY BLURBS OF
MY CREATION FICTIONAL CORALS FLOATING THROUGH MY BRAIN.

SPACE-CRAFT

A JUVENILE CALICO BASS, ONLY ABOUT 5 INCHES LONG, WHICH I CAME ACROSS HANGING AROUND A ROCK PILE JUST NORTH OF BIG ROCK.
8" x  10"

TYLER TOOK THIS ONE AT LITTLE POINT, WHICH I LATER DEVELOPED IN THE DARK ROOM. THE STOP ENDED UP BEING BAD AND PARTS OF THE SHOT KEPT DEVELOPING WHEN IN THE LIGHT WHICH LEFT CERTAIN PARTS OF THE IMAGE WITH A SPLOTCHY PURPLE TINT. I LIKE TO THINK IT LOOKS LIKE SOME KIND OF
EXTRATERRESTRIAL SPACE-CRAFT.
7.5" x  9"

(BOTH PICTURES WERE SHOT UNDERWATER WITH THE NIKONOS.
I DEVELOPED THESE ONES IN THE DARK ROOM IN OCTOBER)

ORGANISMAL DIVIDE

ORGANISMAL DIVIDE:  ZINC PLATE ETCHING
7" x  9"
I DREW INTO MY PLATE (WHICH I HAD COVERED WITH HARD GROUND/ASPHALTUM) WITH A DISSECTING NEEDLE I HAD, THEN BIT IT IN ACID TO FORM AN ORGANIC AND RICH LINE.  I FOCUSED ON THE CREATION OF FICTIONAL FUNCTIONAL SOFT CORALS AND INCORPORATION OF PATERN AND DESIGN INTO MY UNDERSTANDING OF ORGANISMAL RELATIONSHIPS AND SYSTEMS.

DAYDREAM

DAYDREAM: I REVERSED THE SECOND(RED) INK TRANSFER TO ADD WEAVING INTERTWINING FEEL TO THE OFFSET BLUE AND RED PRINTS I'VE BEEN WORKING ON.
I ALSO RAN THIS PRINT(A SECTION OF THE "TUBE SPONGE" WOOD CUT) THROUGH THE PRESS ON REIVES HEAVYWEIGHT SO THE PAPER AROUND THE INK HAS BEEN EMBOSSED.

CAYE

THE BEGINNING OF MY AQUATIC DRAWINGS & PRINTS INSPIRED BY MY DIVES IN BELIZE THIS WINTER.  BY FAR THE MOST AMAZING DIVES I'VE EVER HAD.  I WAS SO FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO SEE THIS WORLD WHICH STILL AMAZES ME WITH MEMORIES OF THE RAINBOW OF SOFT CORALS AND THEIR PATTERNS CARPETING SUCH A BEAUTIFUL TURQUOISE SEA.

HERE IS SOME OF MY UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY I SNAPPED DIVING IN TURNEFFE:
