MY FIRST LINOLEUM CUT:
I'VE BEEN ENJOYING CREATING AN UNDERWATER NICHE INSPIRED BY WHAT
I'VE SEEN AND TRULY APPRECIATED IN MY EXPERIENCES DIVING.

TAYLOR SIMPKINS-ART: I've always had a passion for the sea, everything and way about it, and at a young age dove in head first and since, have no intent on coming out. My brother, pushing me into waves when I was seven, and dad, an amazing scientist, led me straight to my pursuing marine biology at a young age. I began my current research (on pre-production plastic resin pellet pollution in the Orange County coastal region) when I was 12, and was making presentations to Surfrider, the Coastal Coalition, local TV stations, etc…by 13. So my faith in preserving our seas has been growing for quite a while now. My appreciation for the arts is thanks to my mom, spurring my creativity by exposing me to museums and art books around the house. My work has really developed into an expression of the feelings that come upon me in the ocean: when molecules of water are hugging my body or kelp is smoothly stroking the surface of my skin. Just recently have I begun printmaking but a sort of boom of progress and curiosity and experimentation is occurring in my work and this is what I have to share while I'm exploring this new form of expression.
